Welcomes Visitors to its Pristine Natural Treasures...

from Native Brush to Gulf Shores.

Nature, heritage, and ranch-style cooking enthusiasts are invited to attend Wild in Willacy Boot Fest 2007 on October 25th - 28th.  Our county prides itself in offering its guests the opportunity to explore the natural resources of some of the wildest places in Texas.

Wild in Willacy Boot Fest continues to offers its guest an opportunity to "go beyond the gates" of some otherwise inaccessible ranches located east, west and north of our county.  The tours to our local unique Ranches are among the favorite events to be offered again at this year's festival.  These tours offer nature lovers the opportunity to "get up close and personal": with many species of wildlife including birds, butterflies, and perhaps even a glimpse at the Ferruginous Pygmy Owl.

In addition to promoting our area to nature tourist via the nature side Wild in Willacy Boot Fest, an effort to include local participation was made by adding a heritage twist.  The legacy of a local boot maker who crafted many a pair of boots for celebrities including President Reagan, President Truman, Prince Philip and several movie stars, still continues in Willacy County.  At least three local families continue the boot-making tradition.  With the presence of these specialized craftsmen in Willacy County and being a community surrounded by ranches that still work cattle by cowboys who continue to be part of this dying tradition, heritage attractions area a great part of the the festival.  As a result, the festival now includes a variety of cook-offs, boot-oriented contests, and an array of hands-on demonstrations.

In addition to the birding and wildlife viewing opportunities for avid and amateur birdwatchers, the tours provide excellent opportunities for those who's interests include wildlife photography.  Other highlights of the festival include a two day Trade Show and Expo at the L.E. Franks Tourist Center, an interactive Children's Program, and tours of the local historical museum.  Ranch sites for Wild in Willacy Boot Fest 2007 include the San Miguelito Ranch, Punta del Monte, Hunke Ranch, and the Corbett Ranch.

Wild in Willacy Boot Fest strives to offer its guests a better understanding of how different ranch owners practice the preservation and conservation of our County's natural wonders.
